My NEXT Altered Art project!

It arrived today! My NEXT Altered Art project! Can you believe it? This little birdy is missing it's tail and needs lots of love! The really COOL and different thing about this one is that instead of swinging on a swing like the last two automaton bird jewelry boxes [which I still love, btw!], it actually JUMPS from perch to perch while the music plays! How awesome is that?

"Peacocks and Roses" Altered Art by Denise Farinsky Photos

I was finally able to take pics of my commissioned Altered Art piece, "Peacocks and Roses" this morning.

"Peacocks and Roses"
Altered Art/Assemblage
with Original Illustrations
by Denise Farinsky
Copyright 2012
Dimensions:  12 1/2" H x 7" W x 6" D
Weight: 2.25lbs

There are many interesting facts about this piece of artwork:

  • The magenta silk and velvet roses are authentically vintage from post-war East Germany: late 1940s/early 1950s
  •   The vintage hand-blown glass peacock ornament is from Germany circa 1920
  •   The original automaton music jewelry box this artwork is made from is from Japan: late 1960s/early1970s
  • The antique art nouveau peacock perfume label “Mem’ry: Gordon Gordon Chicago” is authentic and decoupaged on the base of the music box. The designer who made the perfume was a British Fashion Designer named, Lucy, Lady Duff-Gordon. She opened branch of her design house in Chicago in1915. She was also a survivor of the sinking of the Titanic.
  • The music box plays, “Waves of the Danube” by Iosif Ivanovici [1845-1902] written in 1880. The song is also known as “The Anniversary Song” popularized byAl Jolson in 1947 when it was combined with lyrics.
  • All peacocks illustrations are original watercolor and ink illustrations on Bristol board with detail in gold acrylic paint and pearl-ex powder created by myself. They have been decoupaged on the wood base and sealed with gloss acrylic spray

Progress Made in Current Commissioned Altered Art Piece

Lots of progress made on my commissioned altered art piece. The original hand painted watercolor and ink illustrations have been decoupaged on and sealed with acrylic gloss spray. The brass fixtures and brass cage of been polished and the vintage 1920's German Peacock Christmas hand blown glass ornament has been epoxied to the top of the cage. All I need to do now is install the automaton bird and vintage velvet flowers. :)
